Adventure #117: 麵闘庵 (Nara)

Today we took a day trip to Nara.  After visiting the most famous temple in Nara, we walked into town to look for lunch. The guide book had no suggestions. So, we walked the high street but nothing caught our attention.  Just before we were about to give up and eat in any of the dozen Japanese restaurants along the high street with plastic food displays on the outside, we spotted a shop right at the end of the street.

The shop displayed photos of itself from TV programs and photos of its many patrons (some may even be Japanese celebrity but we will never know). So, that can't be bad. So, 麵闘庵 it was then.

Pictures of its patrons inside the restaurant too.

G and I order their most popular dish (just look for the sign "No. 1 人氣") - Udon noodles in fried tofu pouch

Break open the pouch and out comes the udon.  Very interesting 賣像一流.

Once again, the kids didn't want noodle - they really don't know what they were missing!

Their prawn tempura rice came in a box in the shape of a house. And they were happy with their food.  Cannot go wrong with Japanese rice, I guess!
We figured the kids' rice box was fairly ordinary although we have to say the plain looking tofu wrapped noodle was delicous in a very simple sort of way. So if you are ever in Nara and looking for a lunch spot, we do recommend making a pit stop here.
