Adventure #209: The Niseko Supply Company (Take 2) (Hirafu)

TNSC is one of our favourite lunch time stop overs.  A simple galette and crepe for lunch followed by a nice cup of coffee.  We didn't manage to bring the kids here last time, so we tried to book a table for dinner after our lunch. We were told that they only serve raclette or fondue at night. It's a set menu with crepes for dessert. No choice. And since we have raclette at home a lot, we chose the fondue instead.

Salad and starter. I can't remember what the starter was now but it was not bad.

Here's the fondue! Very nice, especially in such cold weather!

And then the crepes the kids were waiting for! Super delicious!

Simple food, cosy atmosphere. Family. Such happiness.

Adventure #203: Chung Kee Dessert

After the hotpot, no one wanted to go home so we drove to Tsuen Wan in search for dessert.  We found one on the net and when we got there (at close to 11pm) it was pack with people waiting for a table!

檸檬芝士木糠布甸  This one looked pretty good.

心太軟 with mango ice cream (can pair with other flavours). This is one of the signature dessert and it was very good. And only $37!

Most of the dessert are very local with fruits and sego but they do have a couple of interesting dessert.  The 心太軟 was excellent.  If you are in Tsuen Wan, definitely worth a visit.

Adventure #187: Laduree

Laduree finally came to Hong Kong! And months after opening, we finally went over to Habour City to visit it.

The boxes came in various sizes. We bought a box of 8.

We got (from left) vanilla (for the little one), orange blossom, raspberry, Marie Antoinette and 4 lemons.
 

Verdict: Based primarily on the tasting of the lemon macaroons, they are not as good as the ones from Paris. This is expected as the lemons used are likely to be different. Just like the lemon gelato in Hong Kong can never be as good as the lemon gelato in Italy.

However, G thought the Marie Antoinette which was made from different type of teas is very good, different but good.

Adventure #165: Sift

After The Salted Pig, we strolled to Sift at Graham Street.  Sift is well known for its cupcakes, in particular its Red Velvet cupcake which is our favourite.  None of its shops serve desserts other than this one.  It is a small shop with a bar area, a couple of tables in front and a couple of tables out back.

The desserts are pre-prepared and the "chef" only has to assembled them before serving but they are delicious!

The warm molten chocolate served with vanilla ice-cream. One of our favourites.

Just looked at the warm chocolate oozing out........yummmm!

Our other favourite, stick toffee pudding. Served with vanilla ice-cream and some honey comb.

A great place to drop by for dessert, especially after dinner. But the place is small, so unless you come early, likelihood is you will have to wait.

Adventure #118: Nakatanidou Mochi 中谷堂 (Nara)

After we finished lunch at tofu wrapped udon shop in Nara, we stepped out of the restaurant and what did we find round the corner? A shop that sells G's favourite Japanese dessert, mochi (a rice cake typically with red bean paste inside).  It did not only sell mochi, its chefs made the mochi dough on site every half hour or so giving us one of the best shows of this trip.

In G's opinion this was the best mochi he has ever had in his entire life.  Again, it must be pretty darn good then coming from picky G.

Adventure #94: Awfully Chocolate

After several hours of shopping around the K11 Mall, we were ready for a sit down and some dessert. There is an Awfully Chocolate shop and an Illy Coffee shop on the ground floor.  We had Awfully Chocolate's cake before but not their newer items such as the Rich Chocolate Cupcake or the White Chocolate Cupcake.

We bought a couple of the Rich chocolate Cupcakes and got our take away Illy coffee and sat at the podium for our tea.  It was a deadly combination. 

The cupcake was made up of a chocolate cupcake base topped with thick melt-in-your-mouth chocolate and finished with melted dark chocolate in the center.......

.......have this with the wonderful Illy coffee.......AWWWWWW!!!

Adventure #53: Roti Boy (One Utama)

When Rotiboy first opened in One Utama, there was always a queue for the freshly baked bread.  But now the craze is no longer but the roti, if fresh from the oven, is still one mean yummy snack!

Adventure #45: Yuen Kee Dessert

One of G's favourite dessert is 白果腐竹. We used to frequent one local dessert shop at Aberdeen but sadly that closed down last year (victim of the ever increasing rent in HK) and we never found out where it went.  So, G has been out of his favourite dessert for some time until a friend mentioned that an old dessert shop at Sai Ying Pun may serve it. 


After dinner one night, we ventured around the area and found Yuen Kee Dessert Shop 源記甜品專家.  It sure look old and very traditional.  Unfortunately, no 白果腐竹.  But we tried their 杏仁茶, 綠豆沙, 芝麻糊 and famous 雞蛋糕 which were all good.

So, our search for a decent 白果腐竹 continues.......
