Adventure #116: Ramen Street 拉麵小路 (Kyoto)

No journey to Japan is complete without having a bowl of ramen.  Up on the 10th floor of the building above Kyoto Station (easiest access is via Isetan Department Store), there is a Ramen Street.  In there are 8 stores serving the nation's best ramen.

Due to its location above the Kyoto Station, it was an ideal place for us to grab dinner before heading back to Arashiyama after the day's sightseeing.  Today, we picked 德島  東大.  The picture of the ramen in thick pork based soup really appealed to me.

Vending machine outside the store.  Must buy ticket first before being served.

I had their most popular pork ramen with raw egg.  The ramen quality was great and the pork soft.  Most importantly, the soup was thick with flavour.  It was really good although towards the end, felt like it was a tat too salty.

G order the same thing but with Japnese onsen egg - hard boiled egg with a semi solid yolk.  He thought it was too rich though and preferred ramen with a lighter soup base.

The kids who are not fans of noodle had fried rice and fried dumpling (which came with the kids favourite, plain Japanese rice!). They loved it so much, they even had another order of dumpling (with rice of course)

The next evening, we were back at Ramen Street and today G chose 博多 一辛舍.

Once again, buy tickets before meal.

Oooo, just look at the pork and egg. The soup base was different from 東大.

G adding raw minced garlic to his ramen.

Once again, the kids did not want ramen and chose instead fried chicken and fried rice.  The fried chicken was very good, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.  But the kids preferred the fried rice from 東大.
