Adventure #60: Sin Yoon Loong Coffee Shop (Ipoh)

Another popular product from Ipoh is white coffee or coffee made with condense milk.  There are 2 well known coffee shops in Old Town opposite each other - Sin Yoon Loong and Nam Heong.

Although Nam Heong started the successful coffee chain Old Town White Coffee, we were told that in the past a whisk was used to generate the froth but today a high pressure machine is used instead. So, we decided to go to Sin Yoon Loong instead.

White coffee with froth served in old style coffee shop cup and with mismatched saucer for that extra bit of character! Haha.
The coffee was excellent!  Even their milo won praises from the older one.

A popular Malaysian breakfast - kaya toast

And another popular Malaysian breakfast - half boiled eggs

Served with white pepper and soy sauce

The plan was just to have a light breakfast of white coffee and half boiled aggs with toast but as usual we could not resist the extras sold in the shop. G decided to try the  豬腸粉 served with the usual sweet and spicy sauce as well as fried shallot, green pickled chili and braised chicken feet sauce! How's that for being creative!

G went at it again and ordered this noodle dish with some kind of sauce. He  said it tasted much much better than it looked.

This came with the noodles and you can choose whatever you like.  The fish balls were very bouncy - kids loved them!

This is the coffee shop opposite, the one which started Old Town White Coffee.  We just can't leave Ipoh without sampling their white coffee and making a comparison.

So we got a take-away! Sadly, this coffee was much sweeter and a far cry from the other one.  You could have guessed as a peek into the kitchen revealed a whole bunch of Indon workers making their coffee.  Yet again, there is no substitute for skill and experience when it comes to even simple coffee making

Sin Yoon Loong has a better product but Nam Heong markets its product better.........
